Push for Direct Hyderabad–Dallas Flights Gains Momentum
DALLAS, TX — Community leaders and business groups in North Texas are stepping up their push for a direct flight between Hyderabad and Dallas-Fort Worth, arguing that the corridor's passenger numbers now justify nonstop service.
The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is home to one of the fastest-growing Telugu populations in the United States, and Hyderabad remains the top destination for family visits, weddings, and business travel. Today, travelers on the route typically connect through the Middle East or Europe, turning the journey into a 20-plus-hour trip with layovers.
Supporters of the direct flight point to precedent: other U.S. cities with large South Asian communities have won nonstop India service in recent years after sustained community and business advocacy. Petitions circulating in the Telugu community have gathered thousands of signatures, and local business chambers have written to airlines making the economic case.
Airlines, for their part, weigh such decisions on year-round demand, premium-cabin bookings, and cargo potential — not just total passengers. Advocates say the DFW–Hyderabad market scores well on all three, with strong tech-sector travel and growing pharmaceutical and business ties between Texas and Telangana.
No airline has announced plans yet, and these campaigns often take years. But organizers say the goal is to keep the route on every airline's radar. "Every signature, every letter, every meeting counts," said one community organizer involved in the effort. "We want them to know this market is ready."
