🗳️ Sethi challenges Paxton on the eve of the Texas vote!

On the eve of Tuesday's November 3 election, Texas House candidate Pooja Sethi challenged Senate nominee Ken Paxton to condemn fellow Republican Bo French's posts targeting Indian Americans.

• Sethi, the Democratic candidate for Texas House District 47 in Austin, wrote on X on Monday: "Waiting for Ken Paxton to condemn Bo French's bigoted attacks on Indian Americans. Or does that outrage disappear when he needs our votes?" — quoting a post reporting that Paxton visited the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Irving on October 31. • The row goes back to September 13, when French, the Republican nominee for Texas Railroad Commission, posted a photo of University of Texas students, many of South Asian origin, celebrating a football win, writing that "the problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined." The post has drawn more than 54 million views. • Paxton responded the same day in September that he condemns "racism in all its forms" — without naming French. His campaign did not immediately respond to Sethi's posts. • Sethi's closing pitch on Sunday: "We will not be intimidated. We will not be silenced. Hate has no home in Texas." • If elected, Sethi would be the first South Asian woman — and the first Hindu — in the Texas Legislature. She faces Republican Jennifer Mushtaler for the District 47 seat; Texas votes today, November 3.
